2014 Zephyr Farms Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir
ELEV. 525 FT. / PACIFIC OCEAN 6.7 MI.
Sonoma Coast

Vineyard

Surrounded by magnificent redwood trees and carved out of the lows hills above Freestone sits the magical seven-acre vineyard known as Zephyr Farms. Deep coastal fog and powerful westerly winds yield the tiniest berries imaginable with thick skins, resulting in a wine that is highly perfumed, with an intensity of flavor at a very high natural acidity and an exotic complexity. Yields vary widely at this site and 2014 was a lower yielding vintage than 2013. As a result, the berries were even smaller and more concentrated, making the 2014 Zephyr Farms Vineyard Pinot Noir especially terroir driven. Aromas include a distinct conifer bouquet and flavors include a mélange of blue fruit, bright red fruit, orange citrus and dried laurel berries.

Taste

Redwood spice, blueberry, pomegranate, dried laurel berries, blood orange

Philosophy

Red Car produces site-specific wines, focused on achieving bright acidity and lively aromatics. Sustainability is at the core of why we exist. We operate each part of the business from the belief that less is more. We are stewards of the land and of the people who consume our wine to ensure harmony with the Earth. We farm organically to protect the soil and our consumers from artificial chemical intervention. At each harvest, this philosophy makes its way into the cellar where we allow our wines to purely express each vineyard’s unique character. We achieve this by using native yeast fermentation and minimal intervention practices.
